Collection: Women

Feminine perfumery in the Gulf goes somewhere European feminines rarely do: it is sweeter, denser, and unapologetic about wanting to be noticed.

The families that dominate here are floral-gourmand and fruity-amber. Rose is treated as a warm note rather than a fresh one, closer to rose oil than to petals, and usually sits on resin or spice. Vanilla, praline, marshmallow and caramel do the work that aldehydes and green notes do in a French floral. Even the light compositions tend to close on musk and sandalwood rather than fading to nothing.

How to choose

Decide first whether you want to be close or to be heard. Soft musks and clean florals sit near the skin and suit daytime, an office, the school run — that register is in musk perfume and, alcohol-free, in musk tahara. Amber, oud and gourmand compositions project; they belong to evenings and to the cooler months, and one spray is usually the right amount.

Season matters more here than almost anywhere. A vanilla that reads as comforting in January becomes overwhelming in a July car park. Many women here keep two bottles for exactly that reason.
