Midnight Oud by Ard Al Zaafaran is an intense oud eau de parfum: bergamot and oregano at the top, oud oil and incense at the heart, deep woods, resins and musk at the base. One hundred millilitres.

Oregano at the opening

That is the genuinely unusual choice here. Oregano is a culinary herb rather than a perfumery staple, and pairing it with bergamot gives the opening a sharp, slightly bitter edge that most oud compositions do not have - before the fragrance moves into oud oil and incense for the heart.

How it wears

Two sprays, then wait: oud reads harsher at the nozzle than it will on skin an hour later, and this one needs that hour. Evening and cooler months suit its intensity.
