Amber, and what it does

Amber in perfumery is not a single material but an accord - usually labdanum, benzoin and vanilla built together - and it is the warmest thing in the perfumer's palette. Set against woods, as it is here, it gains structure: the wood keeps it from turning soft and sweet, and the amber keeps the wood from turning dry.

How it wears

An evening composition. Amber amplifies considerably with body heat, which is why it comes into its own after sunset and in the cooler months, and why one or two sprays is the right amount rather than four.

Apply at the collarbone rather than the neck in summer - heat lifts a fragrance upward, and lower placement keeps it in proportion.
