Beauty of Joseon's Matte Sun Stick pairs mugwort and camellia with a chemical filter system, in an 18 g twist-up stick.

What is in it

The UV filters are diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine and ethylhexyl triazone - broad, photostable coverage without a heavy base. Camellia japonica seed oil, mugwort extract (artemisia capillaris), centella asiatica and turmeric root extract sit alongside them, with silica and boron nitride giving the matte finish the name promises.

Why a stick

No hands needed to apply it, which makes reapplication over makeup genuinely practical - something a liquid sunscreen makes difficult. The silica and vinyl dimethicone crosspolymers are what absorb oil through the day and keep the matte finish holding.

How to use it

Twist up and glide over the face, focusing on high points - forehead, nose, cheekbones - where reapplication is most needed. Use as the final step over existing sunscreen, or on its own for a midday touch-up.
