حلّت واقيات الشمس الكورية المشكلة التي تمنع الناس من استعمالها: الإحساس بها.

اعتمد واقي الشمس الغربي تاريخيًّا على المرشّحات المعدنية - أكسيد الزنك وثاني أكسيد التيتانيوم - وهي فعّالة لكنها تجلس فوق البشرة وتترك أثرًا أبيض وإحساسًا ثقيلًا. أما التركيبات الكورية واليابانية فتستخدم طيفًا أوسع من المرشّحات العضوية، وبعضها غير معتمد في الولايات المتحدة، والنتيجة قوام أقرب إلى مرطّب خفيف منه إلى طبقة عازلة.

وهذا الفارق يقرّر ما إذا كانت العبوة ستُستعمل فعلًا، وهو الشيء الوحيد المهمّ.

يقيس SPF الحماية من الأشعة فوق البنفسجية UVB - أشعّة الحروق. أما تصنيف PA+ فيقيس UVA المسؤولة عن الشيخوخة والتصبّغ، والتي تعبر زجاج النوافذ. وPA++++ هو الأعلى. وللاستعمال اليومي في الخليج، يبقى SPF50+ PA++++ هو الحدّ المعقول.

كيف تستعمله

أكثر ممّا تظنّ - نحو طول إصبعين للوجه والرقبة. فوضع نصف الكمية المُختبَرة يمنحك أقلّ بكثير من نصف الحماية المعلنة. وأعد الوضع كل ساعتين إلى ثلاث في الخارج.

والبسه داخل المنزل قرب النوافذ أيضًا: فأشعة UVA تعبر الزجاج، ولهذا يشيخ جانب من وجه السائق أسرع من الآخر.
