Most bakhoor is built on oud: dark, smoky, unmistakably resinous. Pure Musk goes the other way — soft, clean and powdery, the incense equivalent of a white musk perfume. It is the one to burn in a bedroom or before daytime guests, where a full oud bakhoor would be too much.

How bakhoor is used

A few chips on a lit charcoal disc in a mabkhara, passed through the room and held under clothing so the smoke settles into the fabric. A 40 g box lasts several weeks of ordinary use, and considerably less through Ramadan.
