Boutique Rouge 540 by Volare is a unisex amber floral - jasmine and saffron at the top, ambergris and amberwood at the heart, cedar resin and fir at the base. Thirty millilitres.

Fir against amber

That is the detail worth noting. Fir is cold and resinous, closer to a forest than to a perfume bottle; laid under the warmth of ambergris and amberwood, it keeps the base from turning purely sweet and gives it a woody, slightly green finish instead.

How it wears

Two sprays, then wait ten minutes - the jasmine-saffron opening is bright and short-lived, and the amber-fir base is where the fragrance actually lives. Thirty millilitres carries in a bag for a top-up.
