Jean Lowe Matiere is the floral-oud of the Maison Alhambra line — a white-flower composition sitting on a resinous base.

Narcissus and jasmine open it, and narcissus is a rare choice: green, hay-like and slightly animalic, it stops the jasmine from turning sweet. Rose and cyclamen build the heart, cyclamen adding a watery, transparent quality. Then oud, patchouli and frankincense take over the base, and the fragrance shifts register entirely — from a French-style floral into something unmistakably Middle Eastern.
